The rate of innovation on the web is incredible. Mozilla has been at the forefront of this innovation and has been doing so in an open, participatory manner. Firefox is designed for standard compliance, performance, and portability. Mozilla Localization Project, abbreviated as MLP, tries to help and ease the availability of mozilla.org products toward different world cultures and languages through the support of the open source community.

Localized to over 80 locales, Firefox is available in the native language to over 97% of the worldwide Internet population! But how exactly does Mozilla succeed in having impact and how does its
volunteer driven culture complete the picture?

Living inside the Open Source community of mozilla.org, MLP couldn't be anything else than volunteers driven. If you think one of these products should be available in your language and that helps a large group of people how they experience the web, you're probably the best person to make it happen. Or the right person to help direct the people already working on this task.

You can start following the steps described in "How to localize Mozilla" to get in touch with our community. The document focuses on Mozilla based products, containing the basic steps to start a new localization project and how to let us know you're working on it.

I am honoured to be among those who were invited to amazing Mozilla Summit'10, due to my involvement with the Student Reps program and as a Community member. Awesomely it was during my internship at Mozilla! It was a situation of double joy for me :)

Mozilla Summit was an experience of personal, technical, creative and inspiring all at once. There were around 600 Mozillians: hackers, localizers, testers, marketers, and the individuals formerly known as 'users' like me. Mozilla Summit Science Fair, where representatives from over forty countries in attendance showcased their local communities and cultures.

Imagine, how great it would be to capture the essence of this diverse community and their cultures that are what Mozilla is. I discussed the idea with Mary Colvig, my mentor and the team just a couple of days before the summit and this turned out to be one of my projects during the internship! We had less time to actually shoot the video person by person as most of the schedules were fixed and people were moving for participating at various sessions. The representatives at the fair were unaware of that we will be visiting them to make a video shoot. It was random and we tried to cover as much as we can. It was amazing to talk to each community member.

Firefox Cup

As a User Engagement intern at Mozilla, i got to work on Firefox Cup as one of my summer projects!

The world’s largest football tournament started this week with plenty of opportunity to celebrate. And it is Fantastic to involve with something related. Ever worn a team jersey, painted team colors on your face in support or waved a flag from your car after a victory? There is another way to express your team spirit, and it doesn’t involve paint or fabric – just your Firefox Web browser!

As one of my first project at Mozilla i got to involve with Firefox Cup, which is Amazing! Firefox is the most customizable browser in the world. With Firefox Cup Personas (easy-to-use backgrounds that let you personalize the look of Firefox) you can customize your browser and show your team spirit.

Being in front of your computer doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the action, you can participate with the Firefox Cup . By wearing one of these 32 Personas to support your team, you’ll take part in the global Firefox Cup competition. On the Firefox Cup website, you can easily see how many “fans” each team has (i.e., how many people are wearing each team Persona on their Firefox). The team with the most fans will win the Firefox Cup!
We’ll announce round winners on the following dates:

June 16th: Round 1

While Mexico and Germany are competing closely, At the start of Firefox cup Argentina was leading its way followed by strong competitor- Brazil. And interestingly Brazil scored highest now, with considerable fan gain in no time!!

June 23rd: Round 2
June 30th: Round 3
July 7th: Round 4
July 14th: Overall country winner announced!

You can also stay on top of scores and news within your Firefox browser with the FootieFox add-on. No matter where you are in the world or your time zone, you can catch all the action and support your team with the Firefox Cup!

We started with discussing each others favorite features of Firefox,

*Cbrao said that he is unable to open multiple Gmail accounts at the same time in Firefox, where as he can do so in IE8, using the 'Start a new session' feature. Veeven told him that he can use multiple profiles. (But, afterwards by Googling, he said found Gmail Manager.)

*veeven talked about the awsomebar and recent improvements like restricting the matches to bookmarks (*) and to tagged (+), etc.

* Manish enquired about a way to install/uninstall add-ons without restaring Firefox. Veeven told him that the Jetpacks can meet that requirement.

*Me & Sireesh proposed to start a community website for Firefox users in Andhra Pradesh. Manish suggested it would be better we conduct meetups about all free software's.

A gathering about Firefox without talking on Add-ons? Never. We spoke about our favorite add-ons.

The Making of 3.5 Video Ad...

This Video would not have been made with out the support of my friends, its an experience. This freaking 'concept' struck me one night and i decided to work on it. Goutham Reddy Sama my friend, a movie maker with experience of many short films. With the concept on paper i approached Goutham and asked if he could help me with making the Video. He said, as there are many graphics involved we'd be needing a professional editor and a good video camera.

Goutham introduced me to 'Venk'at reddy, a Professional editor who works for Tollywood movies. we discussed the script and told him that we are doing the project with our own interest and passion for Non-profit organization Mozilla. He loved the idea of spreading Firefox in such a creative way & agreed to do the project :)

We used a 3CCD Panasonic camera(rented from a studio), a handy-cam, a digital cam, and flash light.

We used two cars for the shoot.! one Ford Fiesta, My friend Rakesh Tiruveedula's car and the other Pramod Reddy Manda's Volkswagen Jetta (used for interiors). Mandeep Singh & Rohit Reddy Suday helped in arranging the equipment and car's on time and were very patient driving the car for numerous 'takes' while shooting. The 100% organic scene was shot at my uncles fuel station"Sai ram Gas station"-Thanks to my cousin Sandeep Reddy Gajjala.

The shooting was done at four different locations. The opening sequence at the Outer ring road construction site. The shoot was risky and bit dangerous as the car need to come and stop at the end, (for the "Safety" sequence)...even though the car was not that fast as the mud was newly pressed... surface was bit loosening up at the edges and that was one of the reasons we could not use the other car for all the sequence.

The Video was posted in more than 80 blogs, twittered worldwide, The ad video link posted on official Firefox Facebook page has more than 2000 likes and 300 plus comments in less than a week. The video played its bit of a role during the launch promotion of Firefox 3.5!

The Open Club Event:

The 'open club went further ahead.....,This time it was bhuvan krishna member of www.swecha.org (free software foundation,india) Swecha is the first organization to translate and make available linux in Telugu language and launched it at recent TANA international conference.

Bhuvan krishna was here as part of the open club event to give his valuable seminar on Freedoms of software,applications,development and many other aspects related to Software.He says "you need not be a genius to be in localizing..even a one word translation by you contributes a lot.."

There were much more topics covered by him in Depth which are related to computer science (sorry, i understand only few..) also He presented an animated video Document which was purely made of software program....!!

The event was celebrated the mozilla way...with mozilla back drop and audience wearing FF3 batches..:)

This seminar was more like an interactive session which covered Mozilla history,facts,features,Definition & working of browser and general Quiz..!!

All the members present for the seminar were given Mozilla swag/goodies which include wrist bands,pens,party caps,stickers,batches....... and Ubuntu cd's as part of the quiz..!!!

Ankit Fadia gave a seminar of about 2 hours which was attended by 300plus members. The seminar included live hacking of a big brand telephone network site..!!.He gave hacking tips and tricks, need of Ethical hackers and open source.

He explained the need to encourage open source and stop piracy. He gave Mozilla Firefox and VLC player as some of the examples and how they have various benefits.

The video recording of this seminar was not allowed as it involved some confidential,live hacking.

Techno Creative club aka Open Club

New year started with a bang. We organized a Great event on january 5th named 'We The People", a successful fest with 2000plus members gathering. On the same day registrations for various clubs were done at respective booths.

I included open source awareness in the manifesto of the club-'Techno-creative'.

Preparation for On the Street project.

This was my preparation for 'Mozilla on the street' project. I gave complete box of pens with Getfirefox.com sticker on them.!, the pens surface was so smooth that the stickers were peeling off, so i wounded all the pens with a thread for whole night, next day the pens with properly fixed stickers were looking perfect. People were very happy to have them. Most of them thought they were original Firefox goodies.

'Mozilla on the street' , On 22/11/2008 at Eat street(tankbund) and Dilsuknagar in Hyderabad, i interviewed few people about what browser they use, what features they like etc,. I could not spend much time as my exams were going on....they are going to complete on 3rd December (we have 4 days gap between each exam....!!!!!)

I'll share my Mozilla on street experiences with you soon.. Till then have a look at the video... :)

Firefox in our campus Computer's

Date:24/10/08;There are total 150 computer's that are connected to internet in our campus. I Insisted and gave all relevant details, features of FF3(including the brochure..) to Respective Lab in- charge to install FireFox 3 in all the computer's. Firefox is being used as the default browser in most of the computers already.

We planned for a separate day to install Firefox in rest of the computers.!

Date:23/10/08;This is an internet browsing cafe ,popular in our area. Daily on an average 140-160 people visit this cafe. It has 25 computers connected to net.out of which 17 have already Firefox as default web browser,in remaining systems i installed FF3 and explained to the concerned person about advanced features of FF3. Also pasted Firefox sticker at the entrance of the internet cafe :)

Thanks to the heavy traffic in Hyderabad, everyone struck in the traffic behind these Fox car's are attracted to the catchy Firefox logo and get a glimpse of the Mozilla link. I pasted these Bumper stickers to 34 car's, meaning at-least more than few hundred people notice Firefox. Good going. :)

Mozilla meetup at my place was my first attempt to create awareness about Firefox and open source. Total 23 of my colony friends/students were present. Most of them were already using Firefox and remaining said they did not know they had choice to use another browser and were happy to know about Firefox.
